Frameless vs semi-frameless glass pool fencing

Both are glass pool fences and both have to meet the same Queensland pool safety standard. The difference is how the glass is held.

The short version

Frameless fences hold each glass panel at the base with spigots or a base channel, so there are no posts between panels. Semi-frameless fences hold the glass between slim posts, so there is a vertical post between panels.

What does not change

Whichever you choose, the fence still has to meet the standard. The QBCC lists a minimum height of 1200mm, a gap under the barrier of 100mm or less, no accessible outside ledge greater than 10mm, and glass that is reinforced and shows no signs of fracture. A licensed pool safety inspector decides whether the pool passes.

How to choose

Common questions

What is the difference between frameless and semi-frameless pool fencing?

Frameless glass is held at the base with spigots or a channel, so there are no posts between panels. Semi-frameless glass is held between slim posts.

Are frameless pool fences allowed in Queensland?

Glass pool fences are allowed when they meet the Queensland pool safety standard. Both frameless and semi-frameless fences have to meet the same height, gap and glass requirements, and an inspector decides whether the pool passes.

Which is cheaper, frameless or semi-frameless?

Frameless often costs more, but it depends on your site, the glass and the hardware. Ask for a quote for both on your fence length.
